Living his dream of walking the entire United States Coastline

It was a beautiful Friday afternoon in November, when we decided to take the Pontoon Boat for a cruise down Ole River, along the Florida & Alabama Gulf Coast. Departing Happy Harbour Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama, our destination is the world famous Flora Bama Yacht Club. It is located on the Florida & Alabama State line on Ole River at 30.2827° N, 87.5173° W (North of the Gulf of Mexico) The water was smooth as glass, the temp was 70 degrees and the Bama was calling our name. 

The Flora Bama Yacht Club is world famous, known by millions as the ultimate party spot. The reputation of being located directly on the state line of Florida and Alabama goes unmatched. The beautiful sugar white sand beach, amazing music venues, and emerald waters of the Gulf, are a magnet for vacationers that really want to party on the beach.
However, the people, and the stories are what make this place famous. We have met so many great people, from so many places over the years at the Flora Bama.
Well today was a little different: Have You Ever Met A Pirate ?
I can officially take that off my bucket list. 

After beaching our Pontoon Boat, we placed our regular order of a burger & bushwhacker. Then found a table by the water, when along comes this canoe with pontoon type outriggers, powered by a 2hp Honda outboard (lunchbox)
The captain of this unique vessel was no other than Randy Montgomery aka Circle Walker. As we waved to our new Pirate friend, welcoming  him to our beach. Little did we know the story he had to tell was over seven thousand miles long (pun intended) Randy has been on a trip of a lifetime, walking the entire coastal perimeter of the United States!
​As we engaged in conversation about Randy & his trip, we had to ask: what's the story on the Canoe / Pirate Ship ? He laughed and said that's my Pontoon Boat! During his quest across the northern Gulf Coast of Florida (Panhandle) Randy ran into some major challenges trying to navigate around Mexico Beach, FL (due to the aftermath of hurricane Michael) After meeting some locals, he was told about the ICW (Inter Coastal Waterway) as and alternative to get him to the Florida / Alabama state line. Knowing he would need to swim or float across Pensacola Bay. He chose the latter, acquired his new vessel. After some modifications, that included the addition of the two outriggers / pontoons Captain Randy was headed west. Crossing Pensacola Bay was exceptionally challenging said Randy: I thought I was gonna fricking DROWN! He was really looking forward to crossing that line into Alabama. We laughed and had a great time with our new Pirate friend Randy sharing stories. He had a fan that was coming to pick him up for a couple days, and he was ditching the Canoe / Pontoon Boat going back to walking. He has zero chances of ever drowning while walking.

Dolphin Watching - Bon Secour River, Alabama - Living The Toon Life ​​

The amazing Bottlenose Dolphin is commonly found throughout the coastal waterways of the Gulf of Mexico. They are extremely captivating to watch, as they perform aerial maneuvers following behind our wake. However, watching them slowly cruise up the Bon Secour river, towards Mobile bay at sunset is priceless. Many Pontoon Boat owners experience the frequent  appearance of these majestic mammals. Some, who seem to show up out of nowhere? I believe their coming to the surface for air has a dual purpose of oxygen & human interaction. Many times have we cruised the emerald waters of (Perdido Key, FL - Ole River, in Orange Beach, AL- The ICW & more) always seeing Dolphins. Sometimes they come close to the boat making eye contact as they roll to the surface.
They love to play in the wake, breaching the surface, as they gain altitude and swim along with the waves from the boat. It never seems to amaze me how powerful they are, especially when a large adult dolphin can jump 4 to 6 feet high, with ease. Earlier this past spring we had the opportunity to see a live birthing, it was absolutely amazing how the mother would nudge him to the surface just a few times, and alas he was part of the free world. This summer we received pictures & video of a rare White Bottlenose Dolphin, swimming along Dog River, near Mobile Bay. Complements of Gary Lewis Sr. from Mobile, AL

​Another fantastic location to see these beautiful mammals is Destin, Florida. We had to look no further than our Living The Toon Life member Mike Shetler. As Mike spends much of his free time cruising his Veranda Luxury Pontoon Boat through the beautiful waters, around Crab Island & Norriega Point. Finding the Dolphins swimming around are as easy as spotting your next pontoon boat, they are  everywhere! The best way to enjoy sightseeing for Dolphins, is on the Pontoon Boat. There is plenty of room for everyone on board to move around, to watch, or get the best photo. (Great Job Mike)
